
Mission Statement
Sisters In Media (SM) is an organization for minority women in the media profession. The purpose of SM is to increase the presence of women of color in entertainment while making valuable contributions to the industry and society at large. The organization is committed to the belief that diverse women should be presented with more industry connections and offered more opportunities to develop a career in media.
Sisters In Media is committed to the following:
- To strengthen relationships with diverse programs and companies
- To present job opportunities and academic scholarships for students and professionals interested in media while encouraging young women to pursue a career in the field
- To increase the presence of women of color in front and behind the camera
- To provide an outlet and space for women of color to discuss their experiences in the industry and ways they can foster inclusion in their workplace
- To bring awareness to the lack of diversity in media, while incorporating effective plans to ensure different ideas, stories, and perspective

Oladotun Idowu
Founder
Oladotun Idowu is a graduate of S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She started SISTERS IN MEDIA in the hopes of giving young women of color an opportunity to be immersed in media and contribute to that creative environment. Her expertise is in marketing, strategic communications, research, and publicity with a focus in television and film.

Sisters In Media partnered with Twitter @Blackbirds to bring you A Conversation with Sunny Hostin. The View’s co-host engaged in a conversation with Twitter employees and Sisters In Media members to discuss topics on race in media, career development, networking and self care. This event was hosted at Twitter's New York headquarters and moderated by Twitter's Senior Communications Manager Elizabeth Luke.
Family Affairs - The Wing
Sisters In Media partnered with The Wing to bring Family Affairs. Entertainment Weekly's Lola Ogunnaike and Elle.com's Nikki Ogunnaike engaged in a conversation that explored topics on race in media, career development, networking, and their relationship as sisters to entertainment and fashion professionals. The sisters shared stories landing their first roles in the industry and getting their big break.
Health & Wellness Salon Talk - COMPLEX Media
Sisters In Media partnered with COMPLEX Media to bring you SALON TALK. Host and lifestyle expert, Kéla Walker, discussed her journey to weight loss and great health. Sisters In Media and Complex employees shared their stories and took pointers from Walker's past experience and her personal trainer.
Women On The Move Panel - Syracuse University
Sisters In Media partnered with Syracuse University S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications to bring you WOMEN ON THE MOVE. Our panelists included Tai Beauchamp (The Tai Life), Tracy G (Sway In the Morning), Danielle M. Brown (Time Inc.) and Lilly Workneh (Black Voices, The Huffington Post) as our moderator. Attendees were welcomed to engage with these specially invited guests ranging from radio personalities, magazine editors, journalists and media executives. The discussion explored topics on race in media, career development, networking, the evolution of the industry, and self care followed by a Q&A session.
